Press Release | Wednesday 8 November 2023

Grand Cayman, 8 November 2023 - - Cayman Capital Trust Bank Ltd. is launching Power to Make a Difference, a corporate social responsibility programme run by parent company Republic Bank in jurisdictions across the Caribbean. In the Cayman Islands, Cayman Capital Trust will focus its continued contributions to the community on youth development, entrepreneurial excellence and environmental causes.

“It has always been important to Cayman Capital Trust to be a good corporate citizen, supporting our communities and local charities,” said Janet Hislop, CEO of Cayman Capital Trust. “The Power to Make a Difference programme aligns with our commitment to sustainability and gives focus to our areas of giving, while still allowing us to support organisations and initiatives important to us at a local level.”

Keeping in line with Republic Bank’s strategic goals and initiatives, Cayman Capital Trust has also recently partnered with Cayman Cricket to support its youth development programmes. Cayman Cricket is revitalising the game at all levels with special focus on programmes within the schools; Cayman Capital Trust’s investment will reinforce the plans that are in place for the remaining 2023 school year and beyond

Republic Bank is also the title sponsor and official bank of the Caribbean Premier League, the annual Twenty20 cricket tournament held in the Caribbean.  Cayman Capital Trust’s partnership with Cayman Cricket is just one way that the Republic family continues to share its passion for the sport across the region.

Republic Bank first launched the Power to Make a Difference in 2003. Since then, the Group has donated more than US$28 million in jurisdictions across the Caribbean.

Another example is Cayman Capital Trust’s long-term support of student debating in the Cayman Islands. Cayman Capital Trust’s Group Legal Counsel, Ian Whan Tong, is the volunteer founder and tournament director of the Conyers Inter-School Debate Tournament, which provides a platform for around 70 high school students to participate in competitive debate twice in each year.

“Debating is an invaluable life skill that every high school student should learn,” said Whan Tong. “It encourages students to consider two sides of an argument and helps them understand different perspectives. The tournament is the only interschool debate in the Cayman Islands and is made possible by the volunteer efforts of judges, coaches, the sponsor, and all schools.”
